More Than Just a Dead Rose

You Are More - Tenth Avenue North

Ever since I heard Tenth Avenue North's first cd "Over and Underneath" I have been a huge fan of theirs.  As I have heard from others, their songs hit so close to home for many people.  They just recently came out with a new-ish song called "You Are More".  I heard the song on the radio a number of times and I thought it had quite a catchy beat to it.  A couple of weeks ago, I saw the music video for the first time and started to understand the point behind the song.
I can't tell you how many times that I have felt like I can't possibly be saved because of the things I have done in life.  Even as I write this I feel like I'm not good enough for anything that God has to give.  This causes me to run away from him every time I sin hoping that he doesn't see me.  Needless to say, that idea doesn't work.  The point behind Tenth Avenue North's song is that God see's us as so much more than what we do, so we don't have to run away when we go against Him and sin.  We can instead turn to Him and draw even closer to Him so that He can get us through that sin.  Pastor Matt Chandler from Texas referred to humanity as a broken, twisted rose.  His point was that although we are broken and messed up, "Jesus wants the rose.  That's the point of the Gospel."  So that we can be saved and made new despite the messes we make.

  1. I struggle a lot with the very same thing. A lot of times I allow my guilt and shame to separate me from God more than any sin could. I am trying to stop allowing this to happen but Gods amazing grace is so hard to grasp. ThAnks for sharing your thoughts it was very encouraging. Btw I love Tenth Avenue North.;) one of my favorite bands
